Things About Me
“The only way to run away without leaving home is to make art.”
This quote by Twyla Tharp is the best way I can define my need to paint. The essential (and too often ignored) element in being human is first and foremost creativity. Without creativity we would not progress, there would be no humanistic record of our past, present or future and sadly, beauty would go unnoticed. As an artist and as a human being I must make art in order to take care of the many details of life. Painting, gardening, playing with the dogs, walking and cycling in Fish Creek Park are some of the best ways I know of to clear the mind and solve the issues of the day.
There are too many ugly things in this world and not nearly enough fun. Painting gives me a way to escape or “run away” and play. Seek the beauty, spend more time looking, get right up to that leaf and see what is there. Time will vanish and you will feel comforted and inspired. Guaranteed!
